To Spiritual Assemblies, groups, and individuals in the Northeast region
Dear Friends,
As conditions in various parts of the region seem to make possible the easing of some restrictions due to the COVID-19 virus, questions will arise about how this affects our Baha’i activities. Because those conditions vary widely throughout the Northeast, it is not possible to give one set of guidelines for all to follow. Certainly, the principle of uppermost importance is always a heartfelt concern for the health of the Baha’is, their families, friends, and collaborators in the wider community, particularly those who are at greatest risk by attending gatherings. Additionally, it is advisable to examine thoroughly the instructions provided by local medical and governmental agencies wherever you live when deciding if it is wise to alter current practices of remote participation and following them fully if you make that decision.
The sending of this letter is not meant to imply that decisions need to be made or that changes to our current procedures need to take place now, but rather to give advice for when questions arise. Surely, in those areas within the jurisdiction of a Spiritual Assembly, this matter will be considered in the consultative chamber of that institution at some point. However, since many of the friends live in areas where there is no Assembly, it is being sent to groups and individuals as well because those friends might find themselves having to make those decisions for themselves. Of course, please feel free to contact the Regional Baha’i Council with questions on this matter.
With loving greetings,
Regional Baha’i Council of the Northeastern States
Marie McNair, Secretary
